CSM's Student CGI Conditions of Use
In addition to the
Conditions for a CSM Web Page all students who wish
to use CGI's (Common Gateway Interface) and SSI's (Server Side Includes) on the
CSM CGI server (http://www.students.mines.edu/) must agree
to the following terms and conditions:
World-Wide Web CGI's and SSI's for students are encouraged insofar as they
contribute to the academic mission of the Colorado School of Mines (CSM), and
its students, faculty, staff and associated entities. The policies listed here
and elsewhere pertaining to student CGI and SSI usage are supplemental to the CSM
General Computer Usage Policies.
The Computing Center will allow student CGI and SSI access provided that:
- Sufficient resources are available.
- You agree, through your signature application signature form, to abide by our
policies concerning general computer usage, student personal home pages, and CGI
and SSI usage.
- You continue to abide by existing policies and guidelines, as well as any
that may be developed or put forth in the future. Current policies will be made
publicly available through the CSM Computing Center home page and other means.
Student CGI and SSI Policy
Your CGI and SSI access at the Colorado School of Mines is a privilege that may be
revoked at any time. We may require you to remove or modify material in your
home page as a condition of retaining it. By signing this agreement, you are
waiving your First Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution as they apply
to the material you make available via your home page. If you want to present
material via WWW that does not meet the criteria below, we suggest you contact
commercial Internet access providers.
CSM is not responsible for any material that may be reached via your home page,
including links to other sites; nor is it responsible for any use that is made
of your home page material, or material reached via your home page. You are
responsible for maintaining the material in your home page, and you are
responsible for any errors or omissions in it. You must provide a suitably
labeled link from your home page to the official CSM disclaimer pertaining to
student home pages.
Any material you make available via your home page is no longer subject to any
requirement on our part to maintain its (or your) privacy. You are responsible
for obtaining any necessary permissions, releases or authorization for material
contained in your personal home page. We will not limit read access to student
home pages and their contents.
Material made available through your home page may be deemed inappropriate by
application of reasonable standards. The administration of the Colorado School
of Mines is the final authority on inappropriate material or use.
Inappropriate use includes but is not limited to:
- Use intended to compromise security of this computer or another computer.
- Applications written in a manner which allow computer/server security to
be compromised.
- Use intended for business or personal financial gain.
- Advertising or support of partisan political campaigns or candidates.
- Violations of software licensing agreements, domestic or international
copyright law, or any local, state or federal law.
- Compromise of system security or availability of resources.
- Compromise of the privacy of other people.
- Presentation of any material that may be deemed offensive.
- Misleading labeling of material or links.
- Portrayal of any material as officially representing the school without
proper authorization.
PENALTIES: Intentional, unintentional, repeated, or egregious violations of these policies will
result in the loss of your CGI and SSI access. This includes act by others using
your account with or without your knowledge. In addition, any and all computing
privileges and access may be revoked. When appropriate, disciplinary or legal
action may be taken.
Disk space for the CGI and SSI area will be limited. Guidelines are being developed.
Extensions may be granted.
If your page becomes inactive, as determined by CSM, it may be removed. You may
be required to re-register your CGI and SSI application periodically; the process for this is
being developed.
